Chinese Foreign Ministry: US benefits from European energy crisis

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said that the United States, as the instigator of the crisis in Ukraine, is benefiting from the energy crisis in Europe.

“The escalation of the Ukrainian crisis has been going on for more than 6 months, and this once again indicates that the unilateral sanctions of the United States and the West cannot solve the problem, but on the contrary, their side effects and consequences overlap each other like a snowball and spread,” Zhao Lijian said at a press conference on Friday.

The Chinese diplomat noted that the difference in gas prices in the European and American markets is breaking records, and the price gap exceeds 10 times. He added that, according to information published by the Business Insider news site, US companies could make windfall profits of more than $100 million from each ship carrying LNG to Europe.

“It is clear that if American arms and food dealers took advantage of the Ukrainian crisis one by one, then American energy sellers did not stand aside,” he stressed.

He added that the European population “has to deal with soaring electricity prices, low heating temperatures and even planned power outages.”

He continued: “The United States, which was the initiator of the Ukraine crisis, has been the biggest winner by watching the fire from the opposite bank and benefiting from it, and it deserves the international community to think about it and be vigilant.”
