On Thursday, China said the US nuclear arsenal “threatens regional and global peace and security.”
The Chinese delegate stated at the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference, “The United States, as a nuclear superpower, possesses a vast nuclear arsenal that continues to threaten peace and security in the region and throughout the world.”
“China has always maintained its nuclear arsenal at the lowest level necessary to ensure national security,” he added, stressing that China “has not and will not participate in an arms race.”
He noted that China has an arms control dialogue with many countries, such a dialogue existed with the United States, but Washington “views relations with China as competition and takes steps to contain China and narrow its sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
“This is not possible, and the arms control dialogue cannot take place in isolation from the full spectrum of Sino-US relations,” he added.
