China urges Washington to open door to besieged Syria

The Chinese Foreign Ministry called on the United States of America to immediately lift the unilateral US sanctions on Syria and open the door to humanitarian aid.

This was stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning in a press statement today, Wednesday, where she said: “In the face of this great catastrophe, the United States of America must give up its geopolitical interests, immediately lift unilateral sanctions on Syria and open the door to humanitarian aid,” she added, adding that the US military today is still occupying the main oil producing regions of Syria, extracting Syrian oil for itself and smuggling Syrian food supplies, which has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in the country.

The head of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, Khaled Khbubati, during a press conference yesterday called on the European community to lift the blockade and economic sanctions imposed on Syria in order to deal with the consequences of the devastating earthquake.

The Syrian Ministry of Health announced that the death toll from the earthquake has risen to 1,250 dead and 2,054 injured with an uncertain outcome.
