Chinese shipping company COSCO in the eastern city of Qidong has completed the construction of N999 Tortue floating floating storage and offloading facility for natural gas processing.
The ship is the largest of its kind in the world, as it resembles a floating gas processing plant.
The vessel combines production, processing, storage and offloading of oil and gas with export and mooring areas.
The ship will head to the coasts of Mauritania and Senegal in West Africa to develop liquefied natural gas.
The N999 Tortio FB Su is estimated to be 270 meters long, 54 meters wide and 31.5 meters deep, equivalent to two football fields, and 10 stories high, according to Chinese newspaper The People.
The ship is designed for a service life of up to 30 years, with a maximum tonnage of 320,000 tons and a capacity of 1.44 million barrels. The ship also has a living area that can accommodate about 140 people.
Once commissioned, the vessel will have a daily gas handling capacity of 500 million standard cubic feet.
