China expects Germany to play a constructive role in resolving the Ukrainian crisis

Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CCP), said at a meeting with the German Chancellor that China hopes Germany can play a constructive role in helping to defuse the situation in Ukraine.

“China and Germany are two independent countries with a common responsibility for maintaining world peace and overcoming global challenges,” said Wang Yi, member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee.

“China has always advocated peace, reconciliation, peace talks, and an early ceasefire and hostilities. We hope that Germany can play a constructive role in helping to defuse the situation,” Wang Yi said.

“The two sides had a deep exchange of views on the Ukrainian issue,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement after the meeting.

Wang Yi is on a European tour from February 14 to 22, during which he will make official visits to France, Italy, Hungary and Russia, and will also take part in the Munich Security Conference.
