Chile’s foreign ministry announced that the decision to delay the accreditation of the Tel Aviv ambassador came as a result of the killing of a Palestinian boy by the Israeli army on the same day.
Chile’s foreign ministry said “the decision to postpone the presentation of credentials must be understood given the political sensitivities created by the death of a 17-year-old Palestinian boy in the northern West Bank during an Israeli army operation on the same day.” .”
Chile announced Saturday that it would receive the credentials of a new Israeli ambassador on September 30 after President Gabriel Boric canceled a ceremony last week over the killing of a Palestinian teenager.
Ambassador Gil Artzielli arrived at La Moneda Palace in Santiago on Thursday to present his credentials to other diplomats before notifying him of the postponement of the ceremony.
Uday Salah, 17, was killed on Thursday by Israeli forces during an operation near Jenin in the occupied West Bank, where armed clashes have taken place in recent months.
