Chelsea Reach Quarter-Finals of Champions League After Defeating Borussia

England’s Chelsea reached the quarter-finals of the European Champions League by beating their German guest Borussia Dortmund 2-0 on Tuesday, recovering their 0-1 defeat in the first leg.

Chelsea owe their qualification to Raheem Sterling, who opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, while Germany’s Kai Havertz added a second goal from a penalty kick in the 53rd minute.

That qualification prevented an accelerated departure of Blues manager Graham Potter, especially since Chelsea, who spent $600m in the transfer market to bolster their ranks, have only won four of their last 17 matches in all competitions.

The West London side were eliminated from two local cup competitions and dropped to tenth in the local league standings.

Chelsea will meet their Champions League quarter-final rivals through a draw next week, after the round-robin curtain falls.
