Cavusoglu accuses Biden of distorting history as a deceitful politician over 1915 events.

On the anniversary of the events of 1915, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that there are “deceitful politicians trying to distort history”, alluding to the channel of US President Joe Biden, Anadolu news agency reported.

Cavusoglu tweeted that he tweeted: “The lying politicians trying to distort history are back on the scene again”, adding that “one cannot rewrite history with political statements and the opportunists who insist on this position will be reminded of their hypocrisy and bad intentions.”

Cavusoglu stressed that “no one can give a history lesson to the great Turkish people.”

The Turkish news agency said Biden had previously used the word “genocide” in a speech about events in the Ottoman Empire in 1915.

Armenians in Armenia and the diaspora have long pressed for recognition of the “genocide” carried out by the Ottoman Empire in 1915, which killed 1.5 million Armenians and displaced millions more.

In turn, Turkey argues that it is impossible to start a “genocide” in connection with these events, calling it a “tragedy” for both sides, calling to deal with the matter aside from the political conflict and resolve the issue from the point of view of “just a memory.”

On Sunday, about 10,000 people carrying torches marched through the Armenian capital Yerevan to commemorate the 108th anniversary of the massacres of Armenians in Ottoman Turkey more than a century ago.
