British defense secretary asks Johnson to increase military spending

British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace has asked Prime Minister Boris Johnson to increase military spending and increase the defense budget by 2028.

The Daily Mail reported on Tuesday that the defense secretary had written a letter to the prime minister asking him to increase military spending by 10 billion pounds ($12.2 billion) a year.

The newspaper added that the defense minister is expected to demand an increase in the country’s annual defense budget from 2% of GDP to 2.5% by 2028.

In the letter, the newspaper reported, the defense minister spoke of alleged shortcomings in the kingdom’s defenses, including a shortage of drones, pilots and personnel to work on nuclear submarines.
