British consulting firm expects significant rise in energy prices

British energy consultancy Cornwall Insight expects electricity bills to be higher this winter than previously thought, with households paying more than $4,000 a year.

The company said bills are expected to reach around £3,582 ($4,338.50) a year for a middle-income household from October, compared to £3,359 ($4,068.41) expected earlier this month. This compares to last October’s high of £1,277 ($1,546.70).

It says the amount is expected to reach £4,266 ($5,166.96) as of January before continuing to rise in April to £4,427 ($5,361.96).

The company explained that it raised its forecast due to continued growth in energy prices and an expected change in the way the energy price ceiling is calculated.
