British authorities on Saturday charged a man with manslaughter and his involvement in a plot that resulted in the deaths of 39 Vietnamese found in a truck.
Marius Mihai Dragici, 49, who was detained by police in Romania in August 2022, will stand trial at Chelmsford Court of First Instance on charges of involvement in the incident, according to British news agency BA Media.
It is suspected that Dragicci was part of a network that coordinated the trips of illegal immigrants to the UK.
The defendants face 39 charges of manslaughter and conspiracy to help illegal immigrants.
The bodies of the victims were found in the trunk of a trailer that was taken by ferry from Zeebrugge, Belgium, to Purfleet on the morning of October 23, 2019.
