Britain intends to build 5 new ships, fearing "Russian threats"

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced plans to build five new £4.2bn warships to bolster the kingdom’s security “in the face of escalating threats from Russia”.

“The UK and allies are taking steps to strengthen their security in the face of escalating threats from Russia,” Sunak said in a statement released by his office on Tuesday.

“Russia’s actions put us all at risk. While providing the Ukrainian people with the support they need, we are also expanding the breadth and depth of the British experience to protect ourselves and our allies,” the statement said.

“This includes building a new generation of British warships,” he added.

The program, within the framework of which the construction of 3 ships has begun, provides for the completion of all 8 ships, including 5 new ones, by the mid-30s.
