British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak intends to announce the delivery of a new package of artillery ammunition to Ukraine during a meeting in Latvia, which is attended by the leaders of the Nordic and Baltic countries, as well as the Netherlands.
Sunak arrives in Riga, the capital of Latvia, to attend a meeting of member states of the UK-led coalition of the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF), which will discuss the Ukraine crisis.
According to a statement from the British Prime Minister’s Office, Sunak will call on the leaders of the countries of this alliance to maintain levels of support for Ukraine at the level of 2022 or increase them in 2023.
The statement added that Sunak will also announce that his country will supply Ukraine with “hundreds of thousands of artillery shells next year under a £250 million ($304 million) contract and ensure a continuous flow of major artillery ammunition to Ukraine throughout 2023. “
The statement stated that the UK was the first to “provide defense assistance to Ukraine, including the dispatch of multiple launch rocket systems and, most recently, 125 anti-aircraft guns.”
“We have also provided more than 100,000 rounds of ammunition since February, as the supplies are directly linked to successful land restitution operations in Ukraine,” he added.
Sunak visited Kyiv last month, where he promised more support.
