Brazil, Mexico and Argentina reject Ukraine war claim

Brazil, Argentina and Mexico expressed reservations about the statement of the Conference of the Ministers of Defense of the States of America on the war in Ukraine.

The final declaration, released at the 15th session of the U.S. Defense Secretary’s Conference in Brasilia on Thursday, made reference to the Russian operation in Ukraine, which was called “an invasion and cannot be considered a legitimate means of settling disputes.”

The participating countries expressed hope for an “early peaceful solution”, but the said countries expressed reservations.

Argentina and Brazil considered the United Nations “a platform with an appropriate mandate to resolve the conflict in Ukraine”.

In turn, Mexico stated that it could not agree with what was stated in the aforementioned paragraph of the declaration, since this “does not correspond to the goals of the US Defense Ministers Conference.”
