EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell said recent responses to the “final text” presented by the EU to restart the nuclear deal had made him “less confident that the deal could be salvaged”.
“If the goal is to get a deal done quickly, that won’t help,” Borrell said of Iran’s latest response to a text that highlights Tehran’s demands on Washington.
Last week, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani announced that Tehran had sent a new response following the United States’ response, noting that his country’s response included a “constructive” vision for ending nuclear talks and in response to “the text of a draft agreement to lift sanctions.”
For his part, US State Department spokesman Vidant Patel said: “We can confirm that we have received Iran’s response through the European Union,” adding: “We are studying it and will respond through the European Union, but, unfortunately, it is not constructive.”
