Bloomberg praised RT’s success in Latin America, saying that the decision to ban the channel from broadcasting in the European Union and block its social media accounts did not stop it from “thriving”.
In its article, the agency noted that “RT has become a key component of the Kremlin’s strategy to mitigate the effects of sanctions by strengthening friendly relations with Africa, Asia and Latin America.”
The authors of the article acknowledged that RT had “the biggest success” in Latin America.
They stressed that “this is not surprising, because many Latin countries have long been suspicious of the United States.”
They noted that RT’s Spanish-language Facebook page has about 17 million subscribers, more than double the number of subscribers on the channel’s English-language page.
They added: “Most subscribers in Argentina, Mexico and Venezuela.”
