US President Joe Biden said that “the Russian leadership planned to create a split between the Western allies and within the ranks of NATO, but it did not succeed.”
This happened during a meeting between Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz before the start of their bilateral talks held on the sidelines of the G-7 summit at Elmau Palace in Germany today, Sunday.
Biden added: “(Russian President Vladimir) Putin thought that NATO and our alliance would be separated, but this has not happened and will not happen.”
He thanked Schultz for his efforts to keep the West united, adding: “These challenges make us stronger.”
Biden expressed his conviction that Germany and the United States have a common position on the situation in Ukraine.
