White House press secretary Karen Jean-Pierre announced US President Joe Biden’s plans to take certain measures against Saudi Arabia after consultations with Congress.
According to Jean-Pierre, Washington’s possible measures regarding Riyadh can be implemented in the field of security, and pointed out that Biden, from the very beginning of his presidency, announced his intention to reconsider his approach to relations with Saudi Arabia.
Jean-Pierre said: “The president has time for negotiations and consultations to make a decision. He certainly wants to consult Congress.”
Earlier, John Kirby, coordinator of strategic communications at the US National Security Council, said that the US was ready to reconsider relations with Saudi Arabia.
Andrew England, a Financial Times journalist, pointed out that the termination of cooperation with Saudi Arabia in the military sphere is not beneficial for the United States, since the kingdom is a key ally of Washington in maintaining the balance of power in the Middle East.
