US President Joe Biden on Friday welcomed Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid’s suggestion that a two-state solution represents the best available path to ending the Palestinian conflict.
Biden tweeted: “I applaud Lapid’s bold statement to the United Nations General Assembly in which he said that a two-state, two-nation deal with the Palestinians is right for Israel’s security. Israel’s economy and the future of our children,” adding, “No, I can agree on more than that.”
Greetings @IsraeliPM Lapid’s bold statement at the UN General Assembly: “A two-state, two-people agreement with the Palestinians is right for Israel’s security, for Israel’s economy, and for the future of our children.”
I can’t help but agree.

“We have only one condition. The future Palestinian state will be peaceful,” said Lapid, whose speech at the UN drew criticism from right-wing political opponents, including opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu.
Two days ago, Biden at the United Nations reaffirmed his support for a Palestinian state, but made no mention of any new peace initiative. Israeli-Palestinian peace talks have stalled since 2014.
