Elizabeth Whelan, the sister of American Paul Whelan, who is serving time for espionage in Russia, expressed anger at President Joe Biden for not caring about her brother as importantly as about basketball player Britney Grenier.
CNN quotes Elizabeth Whelan as saying, “I’m just like everyone else. I want Britney to go home, but why doesn’t Paul Whelan get the same attention? Why don’t they call the Whelans from the White House? Why? Doesn’t Paul get a letter from the president?”
She added, “I am very angry. I’m very angry. If you want to shake the trust of the Whelan family, do well. Mission accomplished”.
Britney Grenier was detained at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport last February on charges of trying to smuggle drugs into Russia.
Last year, a Russian court sentenced former US Marine Paul Whelan to 16 years in prison after he was found guilty of espionage.
