Berlin: We do not want to abandon the basic agreement between Russia and NATO

German Foreign Minister Annalena Bierbock said that Germany does not want to abandon the basic agreement between NATO and Russia.

“We are facing this new time where we have to be able to defend ourselves against Russia if that happens,” Beerbock said.

But at the same time, she noted that Germany does not want to “denounce the founding law of Russia and NATO.”

The minister commented on the increase in NATO’s rapid reaction force, saying that “in this way, NATO will protect every centimeter of the territory of the alliance.”

Earlier, the Welt newspaper reported that Germany and France during the NATO summit in Madrid would insist on maintaining the basic agreement between Russia and the alliance.

Welt pointed out that Eastern European countries are calling for the abolition of the basic agreement signed between Russia and NATO in 1997, which France and Germany oppose.
