Belgium warns of "Domino effect" due to lack of gas

German broadcaster N-TV reported that Belgian Prime Minister Alexandre de Croo had warned of a “domino effect” in the European Union if Germany were to run into problems over gas transportation.

“If Germany runs into difficulties, it will have a huge impact on all European countries,” de Croo said.

He said that Germany is the only country currently that has acknowledged that it may have to cut its economic activity due to problems in the energy sector.

German Economy Minister Robert Habeck has previously called for a reduction in the country’s gas consumption due to the energy crisis. The lack of fuel could lead to the suspension of all market operations, threatening the complete closure of some industries, he said.
