Brazilian star Neymar praised the accomplishments of his compatriot legend Pelé in his first comment since the announcement of the “king’s” death.
Pele passed away today, Thursday, at the age of 82 after battling an illness.
Neymar wrote on his Instagram account: “Before Pele, the number 10 was just a number. I read this phrase somewhere, at some point in my life. But this sentence, beautiful, incomplete.”
“I would say that before Pele football was just a sport. Pele changed everything. He turned football into art, into entertainment,” he explained.
He added that Pelé “gave a voice to the poor, black people and especially: he gave a vision to Brazil. Football and Brazil have raised their status thanks to the king!”
He concluded by saying, “He is gone, but his magic will remain. Pele is eternal!!”.
