Barcelona have reached an agreement with Manchester United over the transfer of Dutch player Frenkie de Jong, who must agree to the transfer, according to a source familiar with the Spanish club on the deal.
United have agreed to pay Barcelona €75m plus €10m for the 25-year-old de Jong, according to a source who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak about the deal.
De Jong, whose contract with Barcelona runs until June 2026, must be approved for a move to the Premier League side as reports indicate De Jong’s reluctance to leave Camp Nou for the time being.
But a Barcelona official familiar with the deal revealed that Barça coach Javi Hernandez had told De Jong he would not be part of his team’s starting XI.
Barcelona would have preferred to negotiate a De Jong deal with Manchester United before leaving the team on Saturday for a pre-season tour of the US.
De Jong has played 140 games for Barcelona in various competitions since joining the Catalan team from Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam in 2019 for €75m.
