Barazani Party: threat of secession of Sulaymaniyah and Halabja from Kurdistan "political blackmail"

The Kurdistan Democratic Party described the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s threat to separate Sulaymaniyah and Halabja from Kurdistan in Iraq as “political blackmail”.

Mahdi Abdul Karim, leader of the party led by the region’s president Masoud Barazani, said: “The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s threat to separate Sulaymaniyah and Halabja from Kurdistan is aimed at political blackmail. The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan is trying, especially since it is rejected by the Kurdish people.”

In statements to Baghdad Today, he added that “there are external and even internal parties that have been working for a long time to create a split in Kurdistan in order to weaken it.”

He said: “That is why we have not made and will not allow any steps towards the separation of Sulaymaniyah and Halabja from Kurdistan”, and considered that “the origin of this hadeeth is political blackmail for some benefit.”
