Bach calls for international participation of Russians who distance themselves from the situation in Ukraine

The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of Germany, Thomas Bach, called for Russian athletes to be allowed to participate in international competitions if they distance themselves from the situation in Ukraine.

The newspaper Corriere della Sera quotes Bach: “Those who have distanced themselves from the situation should be able to compete under a neutral flag. Our goal is to ensure that athletes who have Russian passports and do not support the special operation can again participate in competitions. But it’s not easy.”

The International Olympic Committee recommended that sports federations prevent Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.

Bach said that one of the options for resuming the admission of these athletes to international tournaments is to participate without national symbols.

Earlier, the head of the Russian Olympic Committee, Stanislav Pozdnyakov, expressed confidence in the imminent lifting of sanctions on Russian sports.
