Azerbaijani Defense Ministry names victims of latest escalation

The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan reported that 71 of its servicemen were killed during the recent escalation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

The ministry announced this today, Thursday, September 15. Yesterday, on Wednesday, the press service of the Azerbaijani State Committee for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons expressed readiness to deliver up to 100 bodies of Armenian soldiers to Yerevan to prevent escalation, and called for a ceasefire.

Also yesterday, Wednesday, during a speech in parliament, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the losses of his country as a result of the bombing on the border with Azerbaijan amounted to 105 dead.

Clashes between the two sides broke out on the night of Tuesday, September 13, on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, while both sides accused each other of unleashing an escalation of relations with these areas in the Karabakh region. Baku, for its part, said that the Armenian army fired at the positions of Azerbaijani troops on the border, and clashes broke out. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry also accused Armenia of intending to disrupt the peace process, and both sides reported casualties in their army.
