Austrian chancellor urges to stop "Mad" energy markets

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer pointed to the need to formulate a unified European approach to combating rising energy prices and to prevent Russia from setting European electricity and energy prices on a daily basis.

“In the end, we must stop the current madness that has gripped the energy markets, and this can only be done with the help of European solutions,” he said.

“One thing is clear: the price of electricity on the exchanges must fall, and this is necessary for the economy and industry,” Nehammer added.

He stressed that he “will continue consultations with his colleagues in the European Union in the coming days and hours” on this issue.

He said he thought it necessary to prevent Russia from “setting European electricity prices every day.”
