According to Bloomberg, Apple is altering how its overseas companies are run to give India greater attention.

Apple plans to make India its own sales area, giving it “greater significance” within the business. Due to the increasing demand for Apple products over the past few years, India has gained importance within Apple. The second-largest smartphone market in the world, even though the majority of Indians use Android handsets, presents an opportunity for Apple to gain ground by offering more competitively priced products.

With the retirement of Hughes Asseman, the vice president in charge of India, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, East Europe, and Africa, Apple plans to shift India to its own sales area. In his new role as head of India, Ashish Chowdhary will answer directly to Apple’s vice president of product sales. Even though Apple will give India more attention, regional sales figures will still lump India in with Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

To expand beyond China, Apple has begun producing select iPhone models in India, including the iPhone 14. Foxconn, an Apple supplier, invested $500 million nationwide to increase production capacity.

There must be Apple retail outlets in India, but Apple has worked for years to create locations in Mumbai and New Delhi. As of January, Apple had begun hiring for the stores, indicating a potential opening date.

Since 2020, Apple has had an online store in India where customers can buy Apple products.
