An earthquake of magnitude 6.8 occurred in the east of Tajikistan

An American observatory reported that a 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit eastern Tajikistan.

The US Geological Survey said a 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit eastern Tajikistan on Thursday.

The quake struck at about 5:37 am local time (00:37 GMT) at a depth of about 20.5 kilometers (12.7 miles).

According to the China Seismological Center, the earthquake occurred near the border with Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China.
