The organizers said the owner of a ticket purchased in Illinois will celebrate winning the jackpot as their card numbers match all six numbers needed to win the $1.337 billion jackpot.
The organizers of the draw noted that the final value of the prize was higher than expected after recalculating the data on tickets sold, while the jackpot was originally estimated at $1.28 billion.
The jackpot amount won is the second largest in the history of the Mega Millions lottery in twenty years.
The record was set in 2018, when the owner of a ticket bought in the US state of South Carolina earned more than one and a half billion dollars.
