Cuban Ambassador to Moscow Julio Antonio Garmendia Peña said that the cards of the Russian payment system “Mir” will start operating in Cuba at the end of this year.
“It is expected that by the end of this year it will be possible to use Mir cards on the territory of Cuba,” the ambassador said in a statement to the Russian newspaper Izvestia.
He explained that Cuba has been working with the Russian national payment card system since last year, and the first stage of work is completion control, and its goal is to link the two payment systems of the two countries with each other.
He noted that for Cuba this is one of the ways to expand the financial and banking system and will facilitate financial transactions between the two countries.
It is noteworthy that Russian Mir cards can currently be used in 10 countries besides Russia, especially in Turkey, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and others.
