Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboun reaffirmed his country’s willingness to export surplus electricity generation to Europe in light of the energy crisis it is going through.
The Algerian president indicated in an interview with local media on Thursday that some European countries cut off the electricity supply to their residents at certain periods as part of energy saving measures, an opportunity to increase Algeria’s energy exports, as it was published. agency “Vag”.
He added that he proposed to some friendly countries the construction of a power line (cable) linking Algeria to Europe at the closest point to Italy at a distance of 270 km, which is a “not far” distance.
In this context, Tebboune spoke about Algeria’s power generation capabilities, as well as the existence of a local gas turbine industry.
In this regard, he said: “There are all possibilities for the supply of energy from Algeria. Even countries without a gas pipeline can supply electricity directly.”
In terms of gas, President Tebbun stressed the need to double discoveries in this field in order to increase exports from about 53 billion cubic meters at present to almost 100 billion cubic meters.
And he believed that an increase in gas discoveries was more than necessary in light of the high level of domestic consumption, since Algeria had become, thanks to the level of development it had achieved, one of the largest African gas consuming countries.
During a meeting with the media, Tebbun called 2023 “the year of consolidating and consolidating the achievements.”
He emphasized that he was “not 100 percent satisfied with what has been implemented so far, as we could do better.”
He stated that there are changes and that Algeria is striving for more, because the new Algeria is not only a president of the republic or a change of some people or governments, but rather a change in mentality to be more in line with the idea of a building.
