Alex Nylander commits to OHL’s Mississauga Steelheads

The Mississauga Steelheads’ busy week continued on Saturday, as the they announced that Swedish winger Alex Nylander has committed to the team for the upcoming OHL season.

Excited to announce that our 1st round selection at the 2015 CHL Import Draft, Alex Nylander has committed to the team. Welcome Alex!

Nylander, who was selected 12th overall in the CHL Import Draft, is coming off a solid performance at the Ivan Hlinka summer tournament, finishing with six points in five games for the Swedes.

The son of longtime NHLer Michael Nylander and brother of current Toronto Maple Leafs prospect William, Alex tallied 15 goals and 25 assists in the Swedish SuperElit league in 2014-15.

At 17 years old, Alex is regarded as a potential first-round pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Mississauga traded eight draft picks to the Flint Firebirds on Sept. 2 in exchange for Ryan McLeod, revamping a roster that finished last in the Central Division a season ago with a record of 24-38-1-5.
