Agency: Turkish sources suggest that Erdogan and Assad had a telephone conversation at Putin’s suggestion

A Turkish newspaper close to government agencies reported, citing its sources, that Turkish and Syrian Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Bashar al-Assad could hold a telephone conversation at the suggestion of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A Turkish newspaper quotes a source: “As you know, President Erdogan, who recently visited Sochi, exchanged views with Russian President Putin on Syria. On the way back, answering questions from journalists, Erdogan said that despite the presence of structures on the border with Syria, Putin told him that if he prefers to resolve this issue with the Syrian government (President Bashar al-Assad), then it will be more accurate.

The newspaper, known for its closeness to government circles, wrote that the Russian leader invited the parties to meet for a discussion between the Turkish and Syrian sides.

However, the source added that Ankara, for its part, confirmed that it was “too early” to hold this meeting, but did not rule out that telephone conversations would take place between Erdogan and Assad.

The newspaper pointed out that in the context of the negotiations between Turkey and Syria, a commission was formed from experts specializing in this issue.
