Agency: Di Maio is going to withdraw from the Italian Five Star Movement and form a new parliamentary group

The Italian news agency AKI reported that MPs close to Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, the former head of the Five Star Movement, have decided to form a parliamentary group independent of the movement, which will be announced shortly.

Parliamentary sources told the agency that the signatures of 22 of the movement’s deputies were collected to form an independent group in the House of Representatives, whose approval is required on a list of at least 20 deputies.

Di Maio was highly critical of the foreign policy of the new leadership of the Five Star Movement, especially in relation to Ukraine, and his refusal to continue the supply of weapons to Kyiv.

And the differences between the current political leader of the movement, Giuseppe Conte and Di Maio, are not new, as they were clearly manifested during the re-election of the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, by the Italian Parliament for a second and final presidential term. .
