After warnings from France, the UK decides on sewage in the English Channel.

The British government has set out a £56bn investment plan to treat wastewater entering the sea by 2050.

UK Environment Secretary George Eustis said the current system of about 15,000 sewers leading out to sea is a legacy of 19th-century infrastructure.

The head of the local administration of the Hauts-de-France region (northern France) warned the French government about the fate of these waters, describing the situation as a “growing environmental disaster.”
