After the transfer of Asian Cup qualifiers from Basra, Kuwait will host Iraq’s group matches

The Asian Football Confederation announced Wednesday that Kuwait has been chosen to host the eighth group matches of the Asian Under-20 Championship 2023 qualifiers over the Iraqi city of Basra.

The eighth group of the AFC Youth Cup qualifying tournament included the teams of Iraq, India, Australia and host Kuwait.

Also, the Australian Football Association announced today, Wednesday, the return of the Kangaroo team to participate in the qualifying matches for the Asian Cup next year in Uzbekistan after the transfer of Group H matches from the Iraqi city of Basra.

The official statement from the AFC states: “The eighth group matches of the Asian Youth Qualifiers will be played at the Jaber International Stadium in Kuwait.”

He added: “The matches will be played from 14 to 18 October and the participating teams in the group (Kuwait, Iraq, India and Australia) will go through.”

The final of the Asian Youth Football Championship will be held in March 2023 in Uzbekistan.

The first-place team in each group will advance to the final along with the top five second-place teams from the ten groups.

Notably, the eighth Asian group qualifier was rescheduled after being relocated from the Iraqi city of Basra, in addition to the decision to withdraw Australia and then return after Kuwait was approved to host those qualifiers.
