After Algeria, President of the European Council in Qatar

On Wednesday, European Council President Charles Michel arrived in Doha on an official visit to Qatar, the purpose of which, in particular, was to discuss the energy crisis with the oil and gas-rich Gulf state.

Michel told reporters that his visit is “an important sign of our political will to strengthen relations with Qatar” in areas such as “the energy sector, economic development and security challenges around the world.”

Meetings are scheduled with the President of the European Council, in particular with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Energy Minister Saad Sherida Al Kaabi.

European officials are hoping the world’s biggest gas exporters will make up the shortfall in supplies, and the President of the European Council, during a visit on Monday, praised Algeria as a “reliable” energy supplier.

Europeans are preparing for a difficult winter during which Russian gas imports will be below their usual levels, one of the consequences of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, which has the greatest impact on their daily lives.
