African Initiative to Resolve Ukrainian Crisis Receives Response from US State Department

U.S. State Department Deputy Spokesman Vedant Patel said today, Tuesday, that the end of the Ukrainian crisis depends entirely on the decision of the Russian authorities, and not on any other side.

In his press statement, he added: “The issue of ending the Ukrainian crisis depends on the Russian authorities, who have so far shown no interest in ending this war. Let’s not forget that when peace initiatives were put forward from around the world, including from the initiative of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia refused to “act in good faith.”

And he continued: “Instead of trying to end the conflict, Russia has targeted homes, hospitals and Ukrainian civilian infrastructure using missiles and drones.”

He pointed out that the US “continues to work closely with its partners on the African continent on a range of issues, including the Ukrainian crisis.”

This was a commentary on the statement of the President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, that Russia and Ukraine agreed, through the mediation of African leaders, to discuss the prospects for the Ukrainian crisis as part of a peace initiative.
