AFP: Sri Lankan leader flees home after being surrounded by protesters

A senior military source said Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled his official residence in the capital before footage of protesters demanding his resignation stormed the presidential residence.

The source added today, Saturday, that “the president was escorted to safety,” noting that forces fired into the air to prevent angry mobs from storming the president’s palace.
