Afghanistan Calls on Europe to Reopen Embassies

Today, Friday, Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki called on European Union countries to reopen their embassies in Afghanistan.

During a meeting with European Union Special Representative for Afghanistan Thomas Nicholson in Kandahar province, Mottaki said: “The necessary steps must be taken to improve diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and the countries of the European Union, as well as the need to encourage these countries to reopen their embassies in Kabul.”

Mottaki expressed his gratitude to the European Union for the humanitarian assistance provided to Afghanistan.

For his part, Nicholson explained that thanks to the control of the Taliban over power in Afghanistan, security has been ensured and serious steps have been taken in the fight against corruption.

He added that the European Union will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.

The EU countries closed their embassies in Kabul on August 15, 2021, when the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan.
