American investor Michael Calvey, convicted of embezzling 2.5 billion rubles ($32.8 million) with a suspended sentence, left Russia before the sentence came into force.

And the Mishansky Court of Moscow in August 2021 sentenced the defendants in the Baring Vostok investment fund case of embezzlement of 2.5 billion rubles to suspended sentences. The Calvey investment fund founder received five and a half years’ probation, while Frenchman Philippe Delbal also received four and a half years’ probation.

At the same time, the court struck down the guardianship provision over Calvey’s property, and the verdict required Calvey to regularly visit the Criminal Inspectorate after the entry into force of the verdict, in the absence of any preventive measure. At first, the defendants were forbidden to leave the house at night, but the court lifted these restrictions and ordered them to submit a report to the inspection twice a month, and it has not yet entered into force, and there was no ban on leaving. country at the time of departure.

Today, Friday, the Moscow City Court is considering appeals against sentences handed down against the defendants in 2021.
