A 20-year-old young man prevents a massacre at a shopping center in the US state of Indiana.

Greenwood Police Chief Jim Eason praised the 22-year-old shooter’s intervention to prevent an armed attack on shoppers at a mall in the state.

“The real hero is the citizen who legally carried a gun in the cafeteria and was able to stop the shooter’s attack almost as soon as it began,” said Jim Ason.

“It shocked us so much,” he added. “We’ve never seen anything like this in Greenwood.”

On Sunday, 3 people were killed and two others were injured when a man opened fire at a shopping center in the US state of Indiana.

“We have witnessed heavy shooting at the Greenwood Park Mall,” Greenwood Mayor Mark Myers said in a statement. The city is located about 10 miles south of downtown Indianapolis, the state capital.

Myers noted that the shooter was shot dead by a gunman, and Greenwood Police posted a message on their Facebook page asking people who witnessed the shooting to provide information.

Greenwood Police Chief Jim Eason said the unidentified shooter entered the stall of the mall’s restaurant with a handgun and cartridge combs.

Eison clarified that a 12-year-old girl was among the wounded, adding that four deaths had been confirmed, including the first shooter.
