On Friday, the crew of Ryanair in Belgium began a three-day strike over the New Year holidays, which led to the cancellation of dozens of flights.
Philippe Verdonk, director of Charleroi Airport, Belgium’s second busiest airport, said Ryanair had canceled 48 flights today.
Verdonk said the strike would affect about 22,000 passengers in three days.
The Irish company operates 15 aircraft from Belgium and the strike is not expected to affect flights from other countries.
This year, Ryanair employees have already staged several strikes in Belgium and accuse the company, in particular, of illegally forcing employees to work from time to time at other airports across Europe, especially in Dublin.
The unions are planning another strike for the weekend of January 7-8.
Charleroi Airport handles about 8 million passengers annually, with flights to more than 190 destinations annually, mainly in the Mediterranean basin, and is the second largest airport in Belgium after Brussels Zaventem Airport.
